In service the packing dries out or wears and a leak path develops; at high pressure the leak quickly erodes the packing.
The process
The body is drilled and tapped in the low-stress area of the stuffing box, an injection adapter is fitted and a sealant compatible with fluid and temperature is injected to stop the leak. If the leak recurs, the valve can be re-injected through the existing port.
Benefits
- Applicable to manual and actuated valves
- The valve stays operational
- Reduces stem damage
- Injected material equals the original packing
- The noise stops
