These defects require an enclosure that encloses the defect, retains the compound and restores pressure integrity.
Full-fill
The void between clamp and pipe is filled with compound. Simpler to fabricate; requires aftercare on corroded pipe.
Peripheral seal
The compound fills only the seal channel formed at the closure joints. The compound does not contact the defect and only a short pipe section is exposed.
For very thin sections or circumferential linear defects, the design accounts for axial thrust loads and a structural reinforcement (strong-back) is added.
